The October elective is Swing Rueda! Come out and learn what this fun group dance is all about! Borrowed from the Salsa Rueda, the Swing Rueda is danced in a circle with two or more couples. There is a dancer who calls the moves which the entire circle executes in unison. Some moves require partner changes and that's when the fun begins. You'll learn cool moves like the sushi roll, dame, and the circle down.
As always, class starts on the first Sunday in October at 7:30pm! See you there!!

Harvest Moon Ball was a great success with hundreds of happy dancers enjoying the sounds of Old School Swing Band! About Ben and Sheri: Since meeting in 1999, Ben and Sheri Yau from Pasadena, CA have instructed, judged, competed and danced around the world. Ben and Sheri are especially known for their innovative and musical dancing and choreography. Though Ben and Sheri have won numerous competition awards, they are most proud of their 2005 National Jitterbug Championship "Golden Budgie" Award given annually to the person or people best exhibiting the true spirit of Jitterbug. Ben and Sheri are the directors of one of the most unique dance teams around, One2Swing's Jitterbugs and The California Rolls.
The One2Swing Jitterbugs and The California Rolls are a swing dance team committed to spreading the joy of Lindy Hop and swing dancing whenever and wherever they can. Based in Los Angeles, California, and directed by international dance champions and instructors Ben and Sheri Yau, the One2Swing Jitterbugs are all about entertaining, inspiring, and having fun!

Board Member Larry Castro has been busy creating a custom application for you to 1) renew your HSDS membership 2) print your new membership card 3) pay for your classes by the month up to 1 year and 4) take advantage of member-only discounts to workshops, like Ben and Sheri and other HSDS sponsored events!

Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown

The Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown has changed many times over the last 7 years. This year is no exception. ULHS is no longer an event celebrating one style of dance (lindy hop) in one way (contests). It is now a festival celebrating our diverse dance community, its history, and the music that inspires us.
New Orleans sets the scene for a soul stirring weekend of continuous live jazz and blues, exhilarating dance contests with the world's best, non stop social dancing, dance classes for all levels, and historical presentations on the symbiotic relationship between jazz musicians and jazz dancers. There's even going to be a musicians vs dancers baseball game and BBQ!

Lonestar Championships
January 15-17th, 2010, Austin, Texas
Lone Star Championships is a social / party event. While they have multiple workshops and competitions, Lone Star is first a party weekend. There are over 20 hours of social dancing and all of the competitions are social dance competitions - Jack and Jills and Strictlys only. They believe that competitions bring us together to push and inspire each other, as well as bring us together to support and cheer for each other.
